Walking foot quilting for new quilters: Friday 15 May 2026

Walking foot quilting for new quilters: Friday 15 May 2026
Time: 9.30am to 2.30pm
Location: Kathleen’s home-studio in East Leicestershire (LE7 9BF)
Learn to love your walking foot! Master four simple and and effective designs for machine quilting with a standard domestic sewing machine and walking foot (also known as an even-feed foot).
This one-day workshop will teach you everything you need to know to successfully quilt your own quilts at home. Kathleen will share all her tips and techniques based on 15 years of quilt-making and 10 years of teaching beginners and new quilters, just like you.
By the end of the day you will:
Understand options to prepare the layers of your quilt for basting and quilting
Know how to fit a walking foot and set-up your machine for successful quilting
Feel confident to re-create four machine-quilted, edge-to-edge designs independently
Have the skills to develop each design with additional features to elevate your quilting.
This course is taught from Kathleen’s light and spacious home-from-home studio, using her fleet of Janome sewing machines. To make the most of the available time, you will be provided with pre-basted quilt-sandwich samples on which to practice so there is no need to bring any equipment or fabric to the class.
This course is best suited to new quilters who’ve previously made one or two quilts and have tried machine quilting before. However, beginners are also welcome. If you’re not sure whether this is the right course for you, please contact me first so that we can think it through together.
